Well, I installed the new version of Ubuntu labeled Karmic Koala.  One can only guess where these names come from.  First glitch, the NVIDIA control doesn't work for this version without a plug in.  I was unable to obtain the needed gadget to complete the job as yet.  Really what I want is the pen drive version but haven't the appropriate skill set to make this machine bootable from USB port. Maybe I should just get myself a CD version or make one.  Anybody have any ideas?

To turn on bootability from the usb ports, you'll have to enter your bios settings.  Usually there is a special key you can press at the boot screen such as F10, Delete, ESC, etc.  The option is probably buried in a menu somewhere, the specifics I couldn't tell you.

I also have a nvidia card, after Ubuntu updates the first time (you can force it to update) it should ask you if you want to install the proprietary Nvidia drivers, after that you'll have a nvidia control panel.  I had a little trouble getting that control panel to save my resolution I wanted to run at, but I think it was unique to my hardware.

Messing with the bios is above my pay grade.  :Smiley  As for NVIDIA controls, I believe I downloaded the utility but I need to go back and find the patch required to get it working.
